The shores of the Volta Lake have overflowed, forcing 2,500 people from nine communities in the Pru East District to relocate.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), there are 1,302 males and 1,252 females among the victims.

Among the communities affected by the Volta Lake are Kobre Nsuano, Pentecost Nsuano, Adiembra, Fanteakura, Tokobikope, Tonka, Agokope, Logakope, and others.

The victims have been moved to higher grounds, according to Fredrick Ndila Ntana, the Pru East District NADMO Director, in a media interview.

“So far we have about over nine communities which are affected by the floods. These are Fanteakura, Birikente, Tokobikope, Accra Town, Kobre Nsuano, Who Are You, and many others.”

Thus, the breakdown of the approximately 2554 displaced individuals is as follows. There are 1,252 females and 1,302 males.”We have moved them to the highest location,” he declared.

It should also be noted that approximately 26,000 people have been displaced as a result of the Akosombo dam overflow in several villages in the Volta and Eastern regions.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) started controlled leaking from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, in response to a continuous rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.

The leakage has caused thousands of residents’ homes in Asuogyaman, North Tongu, Central Tongu, South Tongu, and other areas to flood.
