A state burial slated for November 16 will be held for the former First Lady, Theresa Kufour.
The ceremony is expected to be held at the forecourt of the state house.
The final funeral rites would however continue in Kumasi on November 18 and on November 19, she would be laid to rest.
The family of the late Theresa Kufuor will, however, mark the one-week observation on Wednesday, October 11, at the Peduase residence of former President Kufuor,
The spokesperson of the family, Papa Kofi Mensah revealed the funeral arrangements during a visit to the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
The Visit was also to formally inform the President of the demise of the former First Lady.
President Akufo Addo welcomed the information from the family and said “As long as I am the President I will ensure she is given a befitting burial because she was a very fine and dignified woman and she deserves it.”
He indicated a repeat of flags flying at half-mast on the day of the funeral in honour of the Late Theresa Kufuor.
The delegation to the Jubilee House, led by the Awua Domase Akyempemhene, Nana Amoah Gyawu Buahin also included sons and daughters of late Theresa Kufuor, Kojo Mensah, a nephew, and former diplomat, Ambassador D. K. Osei.
Ghana lost its former first lady Theresa Kufuor on Sunday, October 1, 2023, after a long period of illness.
She died at age 87.
Theresa Kufuor was the first lady of the 2nd President of the 4th Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor from 2001 to 2009.
