The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has enrolled a total of 1,415 fresh students into the 2022/2023 academic year Sandwich mode to pursue both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Out of the total of 1,415 students enrolled, 489 are undergraduate and 926 postgraduate students.
The breakdown of the undergraduate students is as follows; College of Health and Allied Sciences, a total of 262 students made up of 130 females and 132 males; College of Humanities and Legal Studies, a total of 175 students made up of 58 females and 117 males; and the College of Education Studies, a total of 52 students made up of 43 females and 9 males.
Meanwhile, the breakdown for postgraduate students stood at a total of 926 students made up of 426 females and 500 males.
This was made known by the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong in his address at the 2022/2023 Sandwich Matriculation Ceremony of the University held on Friday, September 29, 2023.
In his address, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong urged the matriculants to read and abide by the University’s rules and regulations collated in the Students Handbook, Academic Programmes, Policies and Regulations as well as Brochures on Graduate Studies.
He emphasized saying “These rules and regulations are not for the purposes of punishing you. They are meant to bring order and harmony in the university and your life and stay here enjoyable, as well as enable students, staff and residents of the university to function effectively.”
The Vice-Chancellor said UCC has and will continue to maintain zero tolerance for all anti-social behaviours such as cultism, hooliganism, examination malpractice, and prostitution among others.
Prof. Nyarko Boampong added that UCC has enjoyed relative peace over the years.
He, therefore, advised the matriculants to keep to the matriculation oaths and eschew activities that would constitute a threat to the peace of the university.
He said any manifestation of such ills shall be dealt with in accordance with the University rules and regulations.
While charging the students to study, Prof Boampong reiterated UCC’s commitment to helping students achieve their dreams.
“UCC places a very high premium on your education. We expect that you attend lectures regularly to tap knowledge from the pool of Professors, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers and Research Fellows. Take all academic exercises seriously because they contribute to your overall mark”.
On matters of security, the Vice Chancellor entreated them to be security cautious and also to adhere to the traffic regulations on campus.
He concluded his address by appealing to the matriculants to pay attention to information during their stay on campus by visiting the University’s website regularly to keep abreast with events and information in the University.
“As you walk about campus, take time to read notices on the various notice boards, listen to our official radio station, ATL FM on 100.5 MHz and do well to visit our well-resourced Sam Jonah Library,” he continued.
He, however, expressed his optimism in the successful completion of their different programmes within the record time.
