Prof. Oduro shares key lessons from Assin North by-election

Professor of Educational Leadership, UNESCO Institute for Educational Planning & Administration (IEPA), University of Cape Coast, Prof. George K.T. Oduro has shared 3 key lessons for the 2024 presidential and Parliamentary elections following the Assin North by-elections.

This follows what he describes as ‘patronizing agenda’ to which he pencilled the campaigns prior to the by-election characterizing ‘denigrating pronouncements against the elected Member of Parliament, Hon James Gyakye Quayson’.

Prof. Oduro cited the President of the Republic, Nana Akuffo-Addo, questioning the MP elect’s credibility; describing him as a man who was going to jail.

He said, the president articulated, ‘We should not support or vote for individuals who are entangled in legal controversies that may eventually lead them to face imprisonment”.

Also, he mentioned that ‘the sudden multiple commencements of development projects in Assin-North’ prior to the by-election on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 ‘all aimed at influencing the electorates against voting for James Gyakye Quayson.’

But despite these, Prof Oduro asserted that the people of Assin-North voted massively for James Gyakye Quayson with 57.4% winning votes.

ICYMI: NDC’ s James Gyakye Quayson wins Assin North Parliamentary Seat

The Professor of Educational Leadership congratulated the MP-elect for maintaining ‘his humble demeanour in the midst of the denigrating pronouncements and persevering in his re-entry journey to Parliament’

He, thus said citizens’ rejection of vote-buying influence, the professionalism exhibited by officers and men of the Police Service and the apolitical operations of the Electoral Commission are three key lessons that should be embraced and scale up during the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

He further said it is essential for the president to move beyond party politics to open his door for the re-elected MP, James Gyakye Quayson to discuss development challenges facing the Assin North Constituency.

This is based on the promise of the President who emphasised that during the NPP campaign, he said, “‘We want someone who after the election can come to me so we sit and find solution to your challenge’ while he pointed to the NPP candidate, Mr Charles Opoku.

Professor George K.T. Oduro also implored the president to endeavour to continue pre-bye election triggered development projects in the constituency as that is “the mark of a genuine democrat”.
