As part of its mandate to promote and integrate rich culture, the Office of International Relations at the University of Cape Coast has held an International Students Cultural Day Celebration for its International Students.
Dean of International Relations, Dr. Samuel Bert Boadi Kusi indicated that the motive behind the cultural day celebration is to bring students together to integrate, socialize and project the rich culture of their countries.
“We think that this is a good experience because, as you can see, they showcase their flags, they sing their national anthem, they tell us about their country and what is unique about their country. We also have our Ghanaian students around who also interact and bond with them. And by so doing, they are able to get a very warm experience within the University of Cape Coast community.” he opined.
He is of the view that International Students serve as the first point of ambassadors in selling and marketing the University of Cape Coast.
The International Students Cultural Day Celebration was held at the forecourt of the Sam Jonah Library of the University of Cape Coast on Friday, June 16, 2023
Boadi Kusi expressed that the University of Cape Coast is a unique seafront that strives to internationalize its activities.
He, therefore, called on all interested international students who want to be part of the University of Cape Coast to visit the Office of International Relations website for more information.
“And so, for anybody who is so interested in joining the University of Cape Coast, we have almost all the details we have on our university website. They should visit our university website,(https://www.ucc.edu.gh/) go to the Office of International Relations website, and then connect with us.”
“We are ever ready to interact with our international audience and to provide assistance on how they can get admission into the various departments, the various programs that we have in the University of Cape Coast,” he told ATLFMNEWS.
Meanwhile, the Provost for the College of Education Studies (COES) of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis revealed that international students play a key role in the development and growth of world-class Universities.
As such, he advised students to incorporate fraternizing and socialization while they study at the University.
“You are special to the university and the university will do everything possible to ensure that your stay is good. The day is for you to fraternize and for the Ghanaian student to internationalize.”
Financial Secretary of the International Students Association and a Ph.D. student from Kenya studying Oceanography at UCC, Dorothy Lukabi, revealed that her stay as an international student has been a remarkable one.
“So far, the experience has been good in UCC. When I came, it was not easy because I had to adjust to almost everything, including the food, the culture, and the way people do things. But I’m glad that right now I’m more of a Ghanaian than a Kenyan. And it’s coming to an end, but it’s becoming better and better and I wish I could even stay more because Ghana has become like home.”
She emphasized saying “So, any international person out there wishing to come to UCC, UCC is the place to if you want to do well academically.”
