The construction of a drainage system that will cost about GHS 50,000 has commenced at Ankaful M/A Basic School located in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The only drainage system the school could boast of is a trench dug with the help of prison officers from the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison.
The school has been without a proper drainage system for over fifteen years and according to the Headmaster, Mr. Isaac Asante Frimpong this poses a significant threat during rainy seasons.
The lack of a drainage system he explained contributes to the flooding of the school environment anytime it rains heavily, hindering free movement when there is a heavy downpour during school hours.
Coming to the aid of the school is a philanthropist and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ekow Ewusi Foundation, Horace Ekow Ewusi.
Horace inspected and engaged the school’s leadership on the project, which commenced on Thursday, May 25, and is expected to be completed in a week.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, he described the project which is valued at over 50, 000 cedis as an urgent matter that needs to be addressed before the rainy season sets in.
“These are the future of the country, a primary school, and we cannot sit and watch for the kids not to go to school because of rain. To me, that amounts to criminality.

The Headmaster of Ankaful M/A Basic School, Mr. Isaac Asante Frimpong on his part commended Mr Ewusi for the kind gesture and timely intervention.
To him, the drainage system will go a long way to avert the flooding problems thereby increasing teaching and learning in the school.
