Mfantsepim Old Boys Association (MOBA) 2023 sponsoring year group has cut sod for the phase 4 construction of the Kwabotwe Centre for Sports Excellence Project at an estimated cost of Fifteen million, four hundred and fifty-three thousand, one hundred and fourteen and eighty-seven Ghana Cedis ( GHC 15,453,114,87) equivalent to $1,88,701.14
Phase 4 of the project expected to be completed by September 2023 includes the construction of an International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) Athletics Oval with Synthetic Track Surface, VIP, and Spectator stands.
Over the years, Cape Coast schools have not only served as the bedrock of Ghana’s education, especially secondary education but have also produced some of the best sports personalities in the country.
Unfortunately, sports infrastructure available to these schools in Cape Coast like elsewhere in Ghana is woefully inadequate to assist in developing sports talents.
It is in light of this that MOBA in 2020 initiated the construction of the Kwabotwe Centre for sports excellence, a world-class integrated sports complex with state-of-the-art sporting facility for football, basketball, athletics, volleyball, swimming, and handball.
As part of the observation of the Mfantsipim 147th Founders Day Celebration, MOBA 2023 sponsoring year group including MOBA 1973, 1983, 1993 & 2003 on Saturday, April 1, 2023, cut sod for the construction of Phase 4 of the project.
Speaking at the sod-cutting, the Secretary to MOBA secretariat, Mr. James Morgan expressed joy over the project and called on all Mfantsipim old boys to contribute their quota to aid in the completion of the project to their alma mater.
The Head of Physical Education and Sports of Mfantsipim, Mr. Felix Nana Nyarkobelieves the facility will help the nurturing of sports talent not only in Mfantsipim School but also in the cluster of schools in Cape Coast and beyond when completed.
He said the facility will also help the school retain its excellence in sporting activities achieved over the years.
