Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced his ambition to run for president in the 2024 election.
The former President made this revelation on Tuesday during a visit to his home by members of Parliament’s Minority Caucus.
The members came visiting Mr Mahama’s office to advise him of their determination to support his flagbearer candidacy if he announced it.
At the discussion, the former President told the attendees that he will run for president and that he will make a public announcement shortly.
Rachid Pelpuo, the MP for Wa Central Constituency, verified ex-President Mahama’s announcement of desire to run for president in 2024, according to JoyNews’ Parliamentary correspondent Kwaku Asante.
This comes after many Ghanaians voiced dissatisfaction with the present government’s mishandling of the country’s economy.
Mr Mahama has counseled the administration on multiple occasions on how to improve the economy.
In the six years after he left power, he has also gained popularity.
After acting as president for six months following the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills, John Mahama ran for re-election in 2012.
He was elected president and served for four years. Nevertheless, he was defeated in 2016 by NPP President Akufo-Addo.

Notwithstanding some doubts, John Mahama ran for re-election as the NDC’s presidential candidate in 2020, but lost. His supporters are aiming for a favorable outcome in the 2024 election.
