The act of leadership or being a leader has global recognition and it is believed that without it human nature exhibits chaos.
This suggests that beyond all our levels of intelligence, there need to be systems that guide how we do things and that is where leadership is said to come to play.
But while some people accept the opportunity to serve because they want to make an impact in the lives of others, it is believed that others pick up leadership positions just to enrich their CVs.
To the Youth Pastor of the University Interdenominational Church at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Rev Victor Yeboah Gyabaah, this is one of the gaps associated with campus leadership that must be bridged.
He notes that though campus leadership can help prepare one for greater opportunities tomorrow that should not be the sole interest of any student who becomes a leader.
The student leader’s main goal he indicates must be to use his or her position to impact the lives of people during the period of service.
“When you are involved in leadership today, you make an impact for today that changes somebody’s life forever as well. So anybody that is involved in leadership is not only doing that because he’s preparing himself for tomorrow, but he’s also doing something significant for an impact today for somebody that needs it today.”
Rev. Yeboah Gyabaah spoke exclusively to ATL FM NEWS after a Youth Empowerment Seminar organized by the Be careful in life (BCIL) Foundation for students of UCC.
He emphasized that leadership is both a process and an event as such leadership thinking with a focus on building a CV should not be the case if one wants to make any significant impact with leadership.
