The Pensioners Bondholders Forum has issued notice that its members would mass up at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, January 23, 2023, to press their demands for the exemption of retirees from the government’s debt exchange program.
Following its expiration today, the government extended the deadline for bondholders to sign up for the domestic debt exchange program until January 31, 2023.
However, despite the submission of a petition, the group complains that the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has refused to talk with its members.
According to the group, including pensioner bonds in the program will jeopardize their livelihood as retirees.

Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, Convenor of the organization, told the media that they will only end their demonstration if the government calls them to negotiate.
“We are trying to see if the Minister will get to meet us. We believe we will get the right and positive response but if we don’t get that, we have written to the police to notify them that we will embark on a convergence at the Ministry of Finance and try to get the minister to speak with us.”
