Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, who founded the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), has passed away.
The unfortunate tragedy was verified by her family in a statement on Tuesday morning. But they withheld the reason for her passing.
The Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe clan described the late director as “the essence of creative transcendence” and “an outstanding personality, giant, pathfinder, go-getter, humanitarian, one-of-a-kind creative, and visionary leader in the cinema and television industry.”
“Peace left indelible imprints on the sands of time. We as a family and clan will continue to do all that is necessary to ensure that her legacy lives on,” the statement read.

The statement continued, “The institutions she established will continue in a seamless manner with the full support of the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation and other institutions and government agencies she has worked with over the years.” This includes the Africa Movie Academy Awards and the Africa Film Academy, along with their training programs throughout Nigeria and the African continent.
The family also said that the specifics of her rites of passage would be revealed in due course.

The late Ms. Anyiam-Osigwe was a director and entertainment executive from Nigeria.
The hip-hop vocal group P Square’s debut music video is said to have been directed by her.
She received a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic award from the Nigerian government in 2012 for her work in the entertainment sector.
She graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a law and political science degree.
The Africa Film Academy, which oversees the AMAA film ceremony, was established in 2005 by Ms. Anyiam-Osigwe.
She resigned from her position as CEO of AMAA at the 10th edition. She started the Africaine project in 2015 to recognize Africans who work in the entertainment sector.
She became The Association of Movie Producers’ National President in 2020. (AMP).
Her final public appearance was in December 2022 at the Radisson Hotel in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos for the unveiling of AMAA’s 19th edition calendar.
In advance of the 19th edition of the continental film awards, the late filmmaker revealed plans and activities for the event.
A call for entries for the AMAA’s 2023 edition was also announced by her.
