The University of Cape Coast has rounded off its 60th Anniversary celebration with an interdenominational thanksgiving service under the theme: “Our strength is from God”.
Amidst songs of praise and dance, the celebrants clad in their various beautiful apparel gathered at New Examination Center on Sunday, October 23, 2022 to show gratitude to God for His unmerited favours for a successful anniversary.
In a short sermon, the Chairperson of the Western Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. Dr. Joseph Apea Asamoah challenged the University of Cape Coast to be concerned ‘no matter how’ in way to help students out of their ignorance.
According to him, educational institutions exist to bring humanity out of misconceptions, falsehoods, and ignorance.
“And so if you have the opportunity to go through an educational institution like this one and still demonstrate in your doing that you are still blind, you are still ignorant, you are still holding on to falsehood, then you have gone through the walls for nothing,” he said.

He further said the university has a task of redeeming people from their misconceptions, adding that the institution cannot afford not to do this task.
“It is not in the best interest of anyone to ignore this…I pray to God that as UCC looks forward to the next forty years, that is centenary. What becomes the next forty years depends on what we do today.”
Rev. Dr. Asamoah also lamented the spate of galamsey in the country stating that people are making it more challenging to fight the canker.
He said “we don’t know what will happen to Ghana in the next thirty years because of galamsey, and the people we are living with, they are even making it more difficult for anyone to handle it. If things do not change, the poor people in this nation will suffer and every one of us will also suffer.”
To him, the situation must change and all must endeavour to play their part in helping the country come out of the galamsey menace.
The 60th Anniversary was on the theme: “60 Years of Quality Higher Education, Expanding the Frontiers.”
