It was all joy for Team Barrister when they secured the presidency slot for the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast.
Polling 5,535 votes representing 41.465 percent of the total valid votes cast of 13,361, Latif Lawrence Jorhowie was declared the winner of this year’s Students Representative Council (SRC) and Local NUGS elections beating three other contestants.
His keen competitor Emmanuel Obuor with teaser ‘Team Dependable’ pulled 4,450 votes representing 33.305 percent.
The only female in the SRC presidential race Mabel Darko Boateng with teaser ‘The New Deal’ also got 2732 representing 20.447 percent.
With 483 representing 3.614 percent, Japhet Abudu Laar with teaser De-Advocate placed 4th in the race.

With the Local NUGS elections, the president-elect, Moses Kabenlah Acquah with the teaser ‘ZIGFRED’ and the secretary elect, Susan Obiri with the teaser ‘Susuan’ stood unopposed and out of the 13361 total votes cast, they pulled 12490 and 12464 respectively.
Apart from the SRC and the Local NUGS elections, there were also Junior Common Room elections at the various Halls of residence.
Declaring the results on ATL FM, the Dean of Students of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Eugene Maafo Darteh expressed his joy over the free and fair nature of the elections.
“We wish to tell our students and the general university public that we need to begin to believe in ourselves we want an election which is free and fair and we want to assure our students and the university committee that our interest in the election is to ensure that we get people who represent the views of the students and we would always ensure that that happens. At the end of polls, we are happy to inform students of this university that they have a new set of leaders,” he said.
He further assured the students and the entire university community that his outfit will continue to ensure that people who represent the views of the students are elected into office.
