The Special Prosecutor’s Office (OSP) has opened an investigation into alleged corruption and corruption-related offenses involving illegal small-scale mining.
According to an OSP statement made on Monday, October 10, 2022, the probe targets officials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission.
It also targets the actions and expenditures of the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), particularly in relation to the seizure and administration of excavators, machinery, road vehicles, and gold nuggets.

The investigation comprises an active and ongoing investigation into claims of using public office for profit against Charles Bissue during his tenure as Secretary to the IMCIM, which arose from an investigative documentary named Galamsey Fraud Part I, which was published by Tiger Eye P.I.
The inquiry also focuses on the activities of Akonta Mining Limited and other enterprises; foreign nationals accused of unlawful mining; and charges of corruption and corruption-related offenses against various Municipal and District Chief Executives and political party members.
