In an effort to ensure that the road networks in the Cape Coat Metropolis are motorable, government in 2019 cut the sod to commence the rehabilitation and construction of 32 kilometers of roads with support from Sinohydro Corporation of China.
The projects in the metropolis formed part of the Master Project Support Agreement of the Ministry of Roads and High Ways acting through its Department of Urban Roads and the Sinohydro Corporation for the construction of Western and Cape Coast Inner City Road project-Lot 7.
Out of the 32kilometres that involved the rehabilitation and upgrading, 22 kilometers of the roads were in the Cape Coast North Area and these were commissioned by the Vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia on Monday, September 26, 2022.
Speaking at the Commissioning ceremony, the Vice President said the project has helped expand accessibility within the beneficiary communities.
He however thanked the major partners for their contributions, especially the government of China for the funding support.
Works on the 30km road in the communities in Cape Coast involve drainage, earthworks, and bituminous asphaltic surfacing.
Communities to benefit from the project include Akotokyir, Kwaprow, Amamoma, Abura new community, English Arabic Area, PPAG area, Amisano, Besakrom, Dunkwakrom, Eyifua, and Kakumdo.
The Vice President also noted that government the Akufo Addo administration has worked on numerous road projects in the region.
These he said include a partial reconstruction of a 30km Cape Coast-Twifo Praso road and access roads to the Kakaum Park and upgrading of 20km road from Dunkwa-Twifo Praso-Assin Fosu’and partial reconstruction of 15km Bawjiase-Agona Swedru road
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako-Attah said his ministry is working assiduously to improve road networks in the region.
He also stated that his ministry will commit funds for the regular maintenance of the constructed roads and therefore tasked the Central Regional Coordinating Council to ensure the enforcement of bye-laws to protect the roads.
He thanked the China government for their support in ensuring development through the Sinohydro Corporation.
The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, H.E Lu Kun also assured of China’s continuous support to Ghana in diverse fields to help develop the country and deepen the long-lasting cooperation between the two countries.
He commended the cordial relationship between China and Government even during the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in which China actively participated and continuously supports development in the region.
