Osei Assibey Antwi, Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), says the secretariat plans to launch a program to supplement the government’s efforts to combat graduate unemployment.
The initiative, dubbed Deployment for Employment, aims to provide National Service personnel with soft skills that would qualify them for the labor market.

Mr Assibey Antwi said this during the National Service Personnel Association’s 12th Annual Terminal Congress in Takoradi.
“The NSS, in repositioning itself to become a real committed force to help the government in reducing the unemployment rate in Ghana, has decided to move to Deployment for Employment. In that sense, it has given us a sense of responsibility to improve the soft skills of National Service personnel.”
According to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), the country’s unemployment rate would reach 13.4 percent in 2021, up from 6 percent in 2010.
Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim, Government Statistician, says the government must address rising young unemployment due to its influence on inflation, interest rates, and economic production.
There have been a series of protests over the unemployment situation in the country.
