Chairperson for the Local Organising Team for the Central and Western sector regional commemorative memorial lecture of John Evans Atta Mills, Prof. Francisca Dora Edu-Buandoh says the memorial lecture slated for Wednesday, June 29, 2022, will stand to the memory of a man whose legacy the nation cannot afford to lose.
According to her all is set for Memorial Lecture which is expected to bring together people from academia, students, family, and the political arena.
The event which is on the theme “The man John Evans Atta Mills-Ten years on” is being organized by the local organizing team in conjunction with the Governing Board of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage.
It will be chaired by the Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, and will take place at the New Examination Centre of the University of Cape Coast.
Others to grace the occasion will be Prof Kwesi Annin from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Prof Akua Britwum from UCC, and Prof George Agyei from the University of Mines and Technology.
Prof. Edu-Buandoh eulogized the late Prof. J.E.A Mills describing him as an illustrious son, an educator, an academic, a sportsman, a patriot, a president of our dear Nation, and a peace-loving Ghanaian.
She further extolled him saying, “He came unto the political landscape as an unknown name but his personality stood out. He had a strong sense of compassion and his kindness was unmatched. Though he was a president of Ghana, he never lost touch of his humanity; he was strict and firm yet calm and always looked to create an atmosphere conducive for all to peacefully coexist.”
Prof. Edu-Buandoh indicated that the vision of the late president improved the standard of living of many Ghanaians and his countenance and achievements are worth emulating by all.
At a media briefing on Thursday, June 23, 2022, Prof. Edu-Buandoh indicated that the lecture will celebrate Prof. J.E.A mills as an academic and an intellectual who was brave enough to venture, to step on the political stairways, to get to the top and still keep himself together.
The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage is a Heritage that was instituted basically to promote the legacies of the late Professor John Atta Mills, his key attributes that we seek to sell, that is the attributes of a humble person, a humble servant, a father, and someone who rose above pettiness and lived his life in such a way that he wanted to include everybody.
