The School of Business of the University of Cape Coast has held its maiden edition of the Chief Executive Officers’ (CEOs) Engagement Series with the aim of motivating and developing the entrepreneurial skills of students and faculty members.
The CEOs Engagement Series held on 5th March 2022, in partnership with Weave Ghana Limited, was on the theme: “The life journey of an entrepreneur: Weave Ghana in perspective.
In a remark, the Dean for the School of Business, Professor John Gartchie Gatsi stated that the theme was chosen because it falls in line with the objective of the school to help create an enabling environment to assist students acquire the needed skills.
He noted, “a strong Business School is the one that has a very strong affinity with professional bodies and industry hence the need to intensify internship arrangements for their students”.
This, he believes will give the students the hands-on training to fit into the industry adding that it is one of the reasons why the school has made it compulsory for students in levels 200 and 300 to undertake internships with companies.
MoU
Earlier the School of Business signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Weave Ghana to allow students undertake their internship with them.
During the signing, Professor Gatsi indicated that his outfit is committed to providing its students, with critical and innovative skills to aid them become relevant to the field of work.
He hinted that the MoU will afford 100 students from the School every year to do internships with the company in the area of entrepreneurship.
The CEO of Godrej Ghana company limited, Roni Chacko in an interview with ATLFM disclosed his pleasure in signing an MoU with the School of Business and indicated the choice of UCC for this partnership.
“Students for UCC were the first we hired for the company and we are very impressed by the quality of talent we had from them and that is why we are signing the MoU,” he said.
He further hinted that UCC was the first proactive University to respond to its call to create a partnership where academia and industry will be bridged.
As part of the agreement, Roni Chacko said it is their intention to roll out management training and graduate training programmes on campus adding that ‘a vivid walk with them for a period of about one year on projects where we will be able to understand the candidate better and they also understand the company better; and depending on how the project goes, it might move into regular employment for the student with us’.
