Akufo-Addo is scheduled to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament on March 30, 2022.
This sessional address was postponed due to the President’s inability to deliver it on March 3rd, as required by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
Members of the Minority Caucus have criticized the postponement, claiming that it has stalled stakeholder input on many crucial bills, including the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.
The Director of Public Affairs for Parliament, Kate Addo, said on Monday that the President is anticipated to appear before the House on Wednesday to give the Address.
She added that the exercise fulfills a constitutional mandate in Article 67, which states that “the President shall deliver to Parliament, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, a message on the State of the Nation.”
“The event will be held at the Chamber of Parliament at 10:00 am prompt,” the statement said.
The speech will assist to lay out the government’s policy objectives and deliverables for the coming year.
President Akufo-Addo will also have the chance to emphasize his government’s accomplishments, difficulties, and development plans for the coming fiscal year.
Akufo-Addo has delayed delivery of SONA
Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader, has rejected accusations that President Akufo-Addo had postponed giving the 2022 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Speaking on the House floor on Friday, he revealed that the Speaker and House Leadership have yet to agree on a date for the President to address the SONA.
He stated that the specified date will be informed to the President accordingly.
“Don’t say that Mr. President has delayed. Mr. President has not,” he stated.
