The NDC caucus in parliament says the finance minister has lost touch with the challenging economic crisis in the country as the measures outlined to salvage the economy are not adequate enough.
To them, there is a lack of clarity in the measures outlined by the finance minister.
Speaking to the media in parliament after the finance minister’s address on Thursday, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said the economy today reflects nothing less than a cost-of-living crisis and a cost of doing business crisis.
“The minister should state categorically and unequivocally that he’s lost touch with reality. He is not in tune with the state of the Ghanaian economy,” he said.
Mr. Haruna Iddrisu said the economy today only reflects nothing less than a ‘cost of living crisis and a cost of doing business crisis.
He intimated “…we do not find his proposals adequate enough. We need certainty and clarity.”
On the E-Levy, the Minority Leader stated that the NDC caucus in parliament has supported the government in its revenue measure but will not in any way support the E-levy in whatever form it is presented to parliament
“Let it not be repeated that the Minority did not support the government in its revenue measures, we did. Only in respect of E-levy that we said that procedurally, they were wrong; they should not rush it through a motion as an urgent motion,” he said.
He said government should be thankful that the NDC is still demanding further and broader consultations with stakeholders on the E-Levy.
