The University Teachers Association (UTAG) and National Labour Commission are expected in court today, Tuesday 15th February 2022 over the industrial strike by UTAG.
UTAG has been on strike since January 10, 2022, demanding an upward adjustment of its market premium.
The NLC through the court has been trying to force the lecturers to go back to the lecture room while negotiations continue but the Lecturers are not backing down on their demands.
The case has been to court on two occasions but the parties were all urged to go back to the negotiating table to settle their differences out of court.
UTAG however refused to engage NLC and rather insisted on dialogue with their employer, government.
Speaking to the media ahead of the court sitting today February 15, solicitor for UTAG, Kwasi Keli-Delataa said “if the proper things are done, if proper procedures are followed, we have no difficulty at all appearing before the NLC”.
He indicated that the matter was adjourned for the legal argument to be heard and it was the judge’s resolve to give them time to engage with stakeholders and return to court today.
On public tertiary university campuses across the country, the strike has halted academic work and threatens to disrupt the academic calendar.
