According to a medical report from the Western Region’s Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the right eardrum of the Connect FM journalist who was severely beaten by police has been perforated.
Eric Nana Gyetuah, a journalist, was assaulted at the God is Love Chop Bar by men dressed in plain uniforms who pretended to be police officers.
After severely beating him, the alleged officers handcuffed him and dumped him in the back of a pickup truck with the registration number WR-3213-13 before charging him at the headquarters of the Western Regional Police command.
He was later granted police inquiry bail.
The journalist, who is also the producer of Connect FM’s morning show Omanbapa, has been complaining of frequent yellowish discharges from his right ear since the incident.
He also has a severe headache.
He went to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital’s ENT Clinic, where a series of medical tests revealed that his right eardrum had been damaged.
According to the medical report, “On examination, the right eardrum (tympanic membrane) was perforated with mucopurulent fluid in the external auditory and carnal.”
His employer, Media General, took him on an emergency flight to Accra to see a specialist for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, met with the assaulted journalist to take an initial report on what happened on the day of the incident in order to conduct thorough investigations.
