Inflation for imported goods was 11%, higher than the 10.4% recorded in December 2021, while inflation for locally produced items was 15.0 percent, higher than the 13.3% recorded in December 2021.
In January 2022, the national year-on-year inflation rate was 13.9 percent, 1.3 percentage points higher than the 12.6 percent recorded in December 2021.
Month-on-month inflation was 2.1 percent between December 2021 and January 2022.
Two Divisions (Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, and Transport) had inflation rates higher than the national average of 13.9 percent, with Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels (28.7 percent) having the highest inflation rate.
The aggregate year-on-year inflation rate in Ghana varied from 6.9 percent in the Eastern Region to 18.4 percent in the Greater Accra Region.
The Greater Accra Region has the highest month-on-month inflation rate (5.0 percent ). In January 2022, the Upper West region saw negative month-on-month inflation (-1.0 percent ).
This month’s food inflation (13.7 percent) is greater than both last month’s (12.8 percent) and the previous 12-month average (10.4 percent ).
The percentage of food inflation to overall inflation fell slightly from 45.2 percent in December 2021 to 44.2 percent in January 2022.
Overall month-on-month food inflation was 2.0 percent, which was greater than the national twelve-month rolling average of food inflation (1.1 percent ).
Fourteen of the fifteen food subcategories had positive month-on-month inflation. Fruit and vegetable juices show a deflation (-0.4 percent ). Non-food year-on-year inflation increased again in January 2022 as compared to December 2021. (from 12.5 percent to 14.1 percent ).
The 12-month rolling average for two of the twelve Non-food Divisions was greater than the year-on-year inflation for January 2022 for the divisions 1). In January 2022, the largest inflation was observed in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (28.7 percent ).
