The annual Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) conference is underway in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast with a focus on the role of the CAGD in advancing the Digitalization Agenda of Ghana.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Omanehen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II indicated that, on the tangent, the world is evolving, digitalization remains crucial to the development of the country.
He explained that for developing countries like Ghana to enjoy the benefits of digitalization in the public sector, there must be awareness and enthusiasm for various new government projects.
He notes “digitalization increases efficiency, it protects your records no matter the natural disaster that occurs and it also makes records retrievable, painless while modernizing your organization to current market stance. Digitalization in business helps to improve the efficiency office of cooperation making automation possible”.
Osabarima Kwesi Atta II further said Ghana cannot afford to isolate herself from the rest of the world as digitalization has become the order of the day.
To this end, he urged that through the Controller and Accountant’s General Department, Ghana must lead the way.
The Controller and Accountant-General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem however noted his outfit has remained dedicated to its course of improving Ghana’s financial management.
In this regard, he said 3000 Public Sector Accounting staff were trained and certified on International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) from March to September 2021.
He added that “going forward Controller is going to produce national account base on IPSAS accrual.”
He further stated that to ensure effective internal controls in the payroll administration, the Third-Party Referencing System (TPRS) and the Electronic Salary Payment Voucher (ESPV) system have been upgraded to reflect the modern trends of doing business on the payroll system.
