One person has been arrested while other suspects are on the run following an attack on the assembly member for Twifo Pewodie in the Central Region, Michael Daddy Arhinful.
Mr. Arhinful is said to have been attacked when he tried to quell an attack on a Disc Jockey (DJ) by irate youth of the town for abruptly stopping to play songs at a gathering.
Initial enquiries by the police indicate that, per the dictates of the town, DJ’s close at 7 pm at any gathering, however when the DJ closed at the stipulated time, the youth got angry as their enjoyment at the gathering had been cut short.
This led to an attack and assault on the DJ of which the Assembly member tried to intervene to bring the situation under control.
However, his actions also angered the youth who attacked him, tore his shirt and caused damage to his motorcycle and also burnt three unregistered motorcycles belonging to the friends of the DJ from Twifo Mintaso, a nearby community where the DJ hails from.
This, according to Deputy PRO for the Central Regional Police Command, Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, led to a scuffle between the youth of Twifo Pewodie and the youth of Twifo Mintaso.
Police on arrival at the scene managed to restore order and arrested one suspect Kofi Nokoe, with the rest of the suspects on the run.
Meanwhile, the police have activated its informants to the ground to help track the suspects for possible arrest.
Elders and opinion leaders of the town have also been tasked to help locate and arrest the suspects on the run.
The arrested suspect has, however, been granted police enquiry bail with the case still under investigation.
