Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has disclosed that government is aware there could be a possible spike in Covid19 cases due to the easing of restrictions.
However, he assures the necessary preparations have been made available to mitigate any unforeseen eventuality.
The President in his 10th televised address to the nation on the Covid-19 pandemic eased some of the restrictions imposed on the country in the bid to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
These include the reopening of schools for final year students in the Junior High Schools, Senior high schools and tertiary institutions.
The ease now allows religious bodies –Muslims and Christians to hold services however limiting the number of attendees to 100.
According to the President, the easing of these restrictions was arrived at after series of stakeholder consultations.
Countries like South Korea, France and Germany recorded new cases after they eased part of their restrictions.
This has generated doubt among the Ghanaian populace with some fearing a similar incidence may occur in the country following the relaxation of some of these restrictions but Mr. Oppong Nkrumah speaking on Accra based Peace FM said government is not oblivious of the implications of easing the restrictions.
According to him, the Ghana Health Service and all other stakeholders involved in managing the pandemic in the country are better equipped to tackle any of such eventualities.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah indicated that, while the government has taken the necessary steps to protect the lives of Ghanaians, greater responsibility lies on leaders and managers of churches, mosques and restaurants which have had their restrictions eased to ensure that their congregants and clients strictly observe all the necessary protocols.
He said notwithstanding the police personnel and city guards in all districts are going to ensure strict adherence and bring all culprits to book.
Ghana’s case count of the novel COVID-19 as at Sunday May 31 2020 stands at to 8,070. The recoveries have also increased to 2,947 with 36 deaths.
Per the new figures, 189 new cases have been recorded since the last update and 106 persons have also recovered from the disease.
