Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has implemented a no-vaccination, no-entry policy in Parliament.
Persons who do not have documentation of vaccination against COVID-19, he says, will be barred from holding any post in Parliament.
A booster vaccination campaign is also ongoing in the home to aid in the battle against COVID-19.
Alban Bagbin, speaking on the floor of the house, said that the booster vaccine is required for all members of the parliamentary enclave.
“Medical experts have strongly recommended that even after taking two shots of the vaccine, one will require a booster shot to provide an extra layer of protection against the virus… I want at this stage to state that this booster vaccination is compulsory for everyone working within the precincts of Parliament. Henceforth, members, staff, and ancillary staff will be required to show proof of vaccination before being allowed into any office within the precincts of Parliament,” he said.
All government and public agencies, including Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), are required to implement the same policy in accordance with the government’s directives.
Visitors and employees of certain organizations will be required to provide evidence of vaccination by showing their vaccination cards before entering their premises.
The policy is already being implemented by the Ministry of Health.
In an earlier interview with the Daily Graphic, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, said that as the government agency at the forefront of health service, it was vital that it leads by example.
“Effective Tuesday, January 4, 2022, everybody entering the Ministry of Health building must be vaccinated before they are admitted. Valid vaccination cards will be, therefore, required for entry,” he said.
So far, the government has provided 9.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccination.
6.8 million people have gotten at least one dosage, and 3.1 million have been completely immunized.
