The Bureau of Public Safety has called on the Ministry of Interior, the Minerals Commission, and the Environmental Protect agency to be neck-deep in investigations into the Bogoso Explosion.
Preliminary investigations by the Police reveal that a mining explosive vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided, head-on, with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion.
The Executive Director of the bureau, Nana Yaw Akwada, said teething issues surrounding what led to the explosion must be unraveled.
He said issues such as “where the explosives were coming from, whether they were being delivered in purpose-built vehicles, if the EPA guidelines were not violated and if the individuals transporting these substances were trained to do are the key questions that we would expect the ministry of interior, the minerals commission, and the EPA to speak to.”
Meanwhile the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni Valey, Dr. Isaac Dasmani has bemoaned how some of the victims of the deadly explosion at Apiate, lost their lives after failing to heed to warnings from the truck driver.
He told journalists that after his truck hit a motorbike, the driver shouted at residents to run for their lives.
He narrated, “So, the driver got down and was telling people to run away and, you know, some people were also trying to find out what was happening,”
Seventeen (17) persons have so far been confirmed dead with 59 persons injured.
PRO for the Effia Nkwanta hospital which is the regional referral health facility in the Western Region, Christian Baidoo tells ATLFMNEWS that two of the victims of the explosion have so far been referred to the facility. He said the two, a male and female, were referred with a leg fracture and facial fractures respectively.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is reported to lead a government delegation to Apiate to empathize with victims of Thursday’s deadly explosion.
