Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong has revealed that the 85 percent complete UCC College of Distance of Education (CoDE) Conference and Resource Centre located at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region will be completed by August this year.

According to him, the Management of the University and all stakeholders will direct much effort into the project to ensure its completion within the stipulated time.

“We are going to use 8 months to complete it and as you know, we are going to celebrate our 60th anniversary this year, so by August we would have finished”, the VC noted.

The project which started in 2011 stalled for more than three years as a result of contractual issues. However, with approval from the Public Procurement Authority, it has been re-awarded to Accra-based Benburto Enterprises Limited.

At an official handover of the project to the new contractor and his introduction to the Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Okatakyi Nyarko Eku X, Prof. Nyarko Boampong expressed gratitude to the Omanhene and his elders for their immense support throughout the years. He said the University will ensure the town benefits from the facility economically.

“…so, the university will support the community so that this facility will be beneficial to the community, to the University of Cape Coast, and to Ghana as a whole. We are going to run programs and we hope that the community will also get something from it”, Prof Boampong indicated.

On his part, the project engineer, Francis Baah Boahen assured the Management of the University of completing the project in record time while engaging labor from Agona Nyakrom to help address unemployment in the area.

The facility is structured to have bedrooms, a kitchen, a restaurant, seminar rooms, and bungalows for caretakers and drivers among others. It will also be a Centre for residential marking, retreats and serve as a training centre for Post Graduate students. The facility is an Internally Generated Funded project and is expected to be self-financed.
