The Ola Bentsir – Inkum Estate Settlers Association in Cape Coast says it is giving government a 90-day ultimatum to address its concerns pertaining to payment of compensation for being re-settled some fifty-two years ago.
The association is calling on government to pay them compensation which has been long-standing since their removal from Bentsir and Inkum fully by Kutu Acheampong’s Military government in 1970.
In a communique copied ATL FM, the association referred to the 1992 Constitution which clearly stipulates that persons whose properties are taken in the interest of the state must be paid compensation.
Chairperson of the association, Mr. John Kwesi Ankai-Mac Aidoo speaking to ATLFMNEWS at the sidelines of a press conference it held on Thursday, said the group would resort to stringent measures to get their demands addressed if the three months grace given government elapses without action.
Relatedly, the Assembly Member for Ola and communicator for the Ola Bentsir – Inkum Estate Settlers Association in Cape Coast, Samuel Krah, also called on government to scrap the grounds rent paid by members of the group.
According to him, it is improper for them to pay grounds rent when government has far failed to pay them any compensation for re-settling them.
The association says it will make a formal presentation of its plight to the Regional Minister, Justine Marigold Assan, at the Regional Coordinating Council on Friday, January 14, 2022.
