The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo- Addo has urged Ghanaians to live cordially among themselves in other to maintain peace in the country.
The President made this statement via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, while recognizing some achievements chalked by his government in the year 2021.
His statement hinges on the country’s ranking in the Global Peace Index 2021 in which Ghana ranked 1st in West Africa, 2nd in Africa, and 38th most peaceful country globally.
Ghana’s ranking as 38th most peaceful country globally is against the 40th spot last year. It is believed that Ghana’s amicable resolution of tensions and allegations in the December 2020 elections was one key element that made the country stand out in the rankings.
The Global Peace Index, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness. This report presents the most comprehensive data-driven analysis to date on trends in peace, its economic value, and how to develop peaceful societies.
The 2021 GPI indicates that Iceland, New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, and Slovenia are the most peaceful countries, while Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, and Iraq are the least peaceful.
