Trinity Healthcare Foundation, UK has organized a one-day free health screening and sensitization exercise for residents at Asemase in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District of the Central Region to help them know their health status.
During the exercise, over 2000 people, including children with general health conditions, were screened and given prescriptions for medication.
A team of doctors and nurses from Doctors-In-Service and Christian Eye Care who conducted the exercise treated the beneficiaries of diseases such as malaria, headache, skin rashes, checked their blood pressure, blood sugar levels and eye problems, and other health conditions.
Those who have serious health conditions were referred to some recommended hospitals for proper treatment.
Established with the objective of providing care and support to adults over 18 years and older adults over 65 years old, to live fulfilling and independent lives in the homes and communities they cherish, Trinity Healthcare Foundation, UK thought it wise after providing the community with a borehole in May last year to organize a health screening outreach for the community as well.
In an exclusive interview with ATL FM NEWS on the side-lines of the exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Healthcare Plus and Trinity healthcare Foundation, Mrs. Josephina Ababio (Nee Brown), said the health screening was borne out of an appeal by the chief of the area to the foundation.
She added that the goal was also to ensure that people go for regular check-ups to have healthy lives.
According to her, it was important for people to regularly check their health status as that would help them know their medical conditions and also seek health advice.
She also hinted that the foundation will support two female students from the community to pursue a degree in nursing in order to man a health post that would be constructed in the near future.
She indicated that “there is no health post in here…and seeing the place, I found that even if the clinic is built, getting professionals to man it might be difficult hence trying to sponsor two of their inhabitants to tertiary to do nursing in future.”
She however advised the people to ensure a clean environment and also take advantage of the Free SHS introduced by the government to send children to school.
Mrs. Ababio said the free health screening would be done every year and would be extended to other parts of the country.
