It was all joy and happiness for mothers who gave birth on Christmas day when MTN Ghana Foundation together with its employee volunteers donated hampers to them at some selected hospitals in the Cape Coast Metropolis.

Each new nursing mother received a hamper comprising blankets, diapers, wipes, towels, shawls, bibs, toiletries, clothes, and other baby essentials.

On every Boxing Day, the MTN Ghana Foundation would visit hospitals across the country to hand out hampers to mothers that give birth between 24th, 25th, and 26th.

Hamper

MTN distributed 20 hampers to the nursing mothers to brighten their lives

Presenting the hampers, he said the donations formed part of the Foundation’s resolve to welcome new born babies during the yuletide to the yellow family.

“The purpose is to welcome them into the yellow world and also to tell them, the parents and the children that MTN adores them and really appreciates them”, he said.

According to him, the donation is being replicated in all the 16 regions across the country adding that the practice of donating to mother started in 2011.

Mr. Ofosuhene further indicated that management has added a new addition to the day by collecting the contacts of the mothers to make follow ups on the development and wellbeing of the children.

Deliveries

Six (6) babies, four girls and two boys through the normal mode were delivered on December 25th, at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital delivery suite while six babies were delivered at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital.

Five deliveries were through the caesarean section with one being a normal delivery. Of the six, three were females and three were males with only one of them (a male) being delivered on 25th December.

Advice

Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, who accompanied the MTN to present the hampers said the donation shows the love that MTN has for mothers since they are unique and should always be appreciated for their love for humanity.

He adviced the mothers to train their children in the spirit of love and that children are the future and their upbringing must be embedded in love.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta II

Looking at the times we are in at the moment, we must show love to the children for their proper upbringing and holistic development” he intimated.

Appreciation

Madam Gladys Otibu, who had her second child, in an interview expressed gratitude to God and MTN for the kind gesture.

She praised the Almighty God for a safe delivery and was happy she gave birth on the eve of Christmas.

On her part, Mrs. Agnes Appiah, who had just been delivered of her first child at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital praised God and said she felt fulfilled, and thanked the nurses for taking good care of her.

She said, “this is a real surprise. Nobody told us MTN will come here. We are very happy. I am happy to give birth on December 25th and this donation has made it complete”.

MTN Foundation

The MTN Foundation is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management structure for the MTN Group’s related initiatives across its 22 operations.

The MTN Ghana Foundation was established in 2007 as a single-purpose vehicle to drive all MTN’s CSR initiatives in the country. The Foundation currently has three focus areas – Health, Education, and Economic Empowerment. The Foundation is set up as a separate legal entity with its own independent Board of Directors and Patrons who oversee the operations of the Foundation. Its commitment is centered around the socio-economic development of the country through the rollout of appropriate and sustainable social interventions in communities all over the country.

The main aim of the Foundation is to have a broad community impacting and supporting national and international development priorities. It facilitates partnership and sharing of resources to achieve mutual objectives.
