The Parliament of Ghana has unanimously adjourned sitting till 18th January 2022.

This decision was arrived at after the Majority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu proposed the adjournment to the sit-in speaker, Joe Osei Owusu during proceedings on Tuesday, stating that a serene atmosphere was needed to make better decisions.

The adjournment comes at the back of the scuffle that occurred during parliamentary proceedings on Monday, December 20, 2021.

The brawl is reported to have been sparked when the 1st Deputy speaker attempted to cast his vote on the acceptance of the proposed E-levy despite his role as speaker in the absence of Hon. Alban Bagbin.

The Minority leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu seconded the motion tabled by the majority after which the speaker put it to a vote.

According to the minority leader, the decision to adjourn proceedings will allow for further consultations on the controversial E-Levy bill of 1.75%.
