Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on all National Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to stay united as doing so will help the party break the eight-year power cycle in Ghana.
He believes proper conduct among party members will ensure the party’s vision in breaking the eight in the 2024 elections is realized.
“I believe if we’re united we shall break the eight. Our success will depend on how we conduct ourselves. We must not take down each other, but rather the NDC whose return will be a disaster for Ghana,” Dr. Bawumia said when he addressed delegates at the NPP’s delegate conference last Sunday.
He however notes that Breaking the 8 “will not be easy…but I believe if we are united, Insha Allah we will be able to break the eight.”
Confidently speaking to back his claims of the party winning the 2024 elections, the vice presidents indicated that the country has made tremendous development since the NPP took office in 2016.
He explained that the NPP has a solid record of achievement in the Fourth Republic with the party becoming an important driver of the Ghanaian vision and development agenda.
He added saying “we have been responsible for the most important policies which touch every Ghanaian in every corner of our nation, the NHIS, the school feeding program, the free antenatal services, the Free SHS, the free TVET program, etc.”
He further stated that “Our record of creating jobs (over 750,000 jobs) is vastly superior to the record of the NDC government which froze public service recruitment. So if our performance on the key macroeconomic indicators (inflation, interest rates, depreciation, external reserves, trade balance, and jobs) during the worst global pandemic in 100 years is better than your performance without such a pandemic how can you say your economic management is better?”
Dr. Bawumia believes that with these achievements, the NPP is positioned well to win the 2024 elections.
He however acknowledged the fact that the NPP has not solved all the problems facing Ghanaians adding that we have solved many problems and we have a plan we are working to. After all, we are only in the first year of a four-year mandate which was given to us at the end of last year.
The Ashanti regional chairman for the NPP Bernard Antwi Bosiako popularly known as Chairman Wotumi disclosed that Ghana is today doing better than the US, UK because of the good work of the Akufo-Addo led government.
He, therefore, reiterated the need for party members to remain united as this
In a solidarity message from the Ashanti regional secretary of the NDC, Kwame Zu appealed to the government to reexamine some economic policies it plans to implement especially on the E Levy as he fears it will burden Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, Delegates to the 2021 National Conference were unable to consider proposals submitted for consideration for the amendment to parts of the Party’s Constitution as anticipated.
As such the conference which was chaired by the Deputy Majority Leader, Afenyo Markins has authorized the Constitution Review Committee to review all the proposals and submit its recommendations to the National Council of the party for consideration.
