Popular Ghanaian lawyer Maurice Ampaw has given comments about the recent prison sentence of actress Rosemond Alade Brown, also known as Akwapem Poloo.
During a discussion that took place during the United Showbiz show in which the lawyer was a guest, he said that Akwapem Poloo is not charged for morality but rather Obscenity. He explains that the crime of Obscenity is an act of publishing any material that has the tendency to corrupt the morality of anyone who comes into contact with it. He added that the pictures that she posted of her son and her while they were both naked has the tendency to psychologically corrupt anyone who got access to it and that is why she was charged guilty of the crime.
He proceeded to say that publishing the nakedness of her son who is underage under the Cyber Security Act is considered as child pornography, which is also a crime by law. He said, “showing a child’s nakedness to the public is just like acting porn………..therefore the two offences she is charged with are Obscenity and posting the child’s nude on the cyber net.”
He also suggested that at this point, she can file a petition to the attorney general to who would also write a letter to the president so that she would be pardoned. This, he explains is because the president has the power to cause her to be free of the charges, and revealed that the president has the power to cause the release of some prisoners every Christmas and this is her last resort at this point.
Akwapem Poloo is a famous actress who is known for popular television series such as Efiewura. She was recently charged by the Ghana Police and social welfare for posting naked photos of herself and her son, Sonof Poloo on his birthday last year, a matter that has become a subject of scrutiny and controversy, among Ghanaian since its emergence.
