Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been remanded in police custody for his suspected involvement in the abduction of his wife, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, 32, a Lands Commission employee in Kumasi.

According to the police, Rodaline Amoah-Darko, 32, left her house in Gyenyase in the Ashanti Region’s Asokwa Municipality on Monday, 30th August 2021.

However, her family said in a statement made on Sunday, 5th September 2021 that Rhodaline left home for Sunyani on 30th August 2021 but was last seen at 8:00 a.m. on the KNUST campus on Thursday, 2nd September 2021.

Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, her husband, was then probed about the matter.

Following some incoherent statements he made concerning his wife’s location, the police obtained an order referring Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey for psychiatric evaluation.

Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey was provisionally charged before the Asokwa District Court on Friday in regard to kidnapping.

The prosecution requested that the court remand him into police custody to enable more investigation into the incident, which was granted by the court presided over by His Worship Korkor Achaw Owusu.

According to the police’s charge sheet, the husband of Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey has admitted to sending messages with the victim’s phone claiming that she has been kidnapped.

According to the police, Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey admitted to them that he was coerced into sending such texts to his phone and family members of his wife by someone calling himself “Rukie” who threatened to destroy his family.

According to the police, the accused indicated that he needed to relocate his wife closer to the Volta lake to assure her safety.

Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, a lecturer at KNUST, complained to the police on 2nd September 2021 that his wife, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, had been kidnapped from their residence near KNUST, after receiving some text messages.

The incident was then investigated by police. However, investigations found that the texts sent from Rhodaline’s phone to many family members and friends, including her husband, were sent from the KNUST campus, which is closer to the accused person’s residence (the husband).

Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey was detained on 6th October 2021 to help with investigations as a result of this.

According to the police, he acknowledged sending such texts using his wife’s phone in his caution statement.

The accused individual, on the other hand, claims he has no idea where the victim’s phone is. He has also been unable to provide investigators any information about his wife’s whereabouts.

As a result, the police have charged him with kidnapping on a provisional basis.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on 26th November 2021.
