Suhum police apprehended a 32-year-old man who disguised as an army commander and scammed one Richmond Ohene Addo out of GHS 2,800 under the pretext of recruiting him in the Ghana Army.
Tanko Sani, the suspect, was apprehended on Monday, November 8, 2021.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said that the suspect would be brought to court after the police have completed their investigations.
He also warned the public not to pay bribes in order to be recruited into any security service since criminals are constantly hunting for those who are anxious to be enrolled in any security service.
“Suspect Saani Tanko was arrested and is currently assisting the police in investigation. The police would want to advice all persons who have interest in joining any of the security services that they shouldn’t fall prey to such criminals who go around and parade themselves as persons who can assist in whatever way to help them join the security service.”
“They should not part with any money because these people are common criminals who are preying around looking for people to take advantage of because of the desperation of such prospective applicants to join the security service by all means,” he said.
The Ghana Armed Forces ran a recruiting exercise for new recruits a few months ago.
Thousands of young people flocked to the El-Wak Sports Complex for the paperwork and medical screening procedure.
Senior High School graduates, as well as degree and certificate holders, participated in the exercise.
