President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says with the thorough selection processes for the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), he would not tolerate any weak excuses for their non-performance and failures.
He said the position of MMDCEs, in the administrative structure of the nation which attracted considerable attention and scrutiny, was reasonable as they are the pillar of local government in the country.

Speaking at the opening session of a four-day orientation workshop for the MMDCEs in Accra, he advised all appointments to get conversant with programmes and initiatives, whether their own or not, emphasizing that a Chief Executive who is indifferent to or uninformed of government activity in his or her region is unacceptable.
He emphasized that “I will not hesitate to disappoint any MDCE who does not live up to expectation.”
President Akufo Addo, therefore, advised all MMDCEs to take advantage of the government’s many programs and initiatives in other to enhance their communities.
He noted that the efforts of his government will be considerably be undermined if those responsible for the local government do not perform creditably. He said his expectation is that MMDCEs will be “part of the team that finally brings decentralization to fusion.”
250 out of the 261 nominees have been approved by the Assemblies with 11 more nominees yet to be approved.
President Akufo Addo cautioned the newly appointed MMDCEs to use the District Assemblies Common Fund wisely.
According to him, while his administration works hard to ensure that Common Fund contributions to districts arrive on schedule and on a regular basis, he believes that MMDCEs should help the government by raising Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
“I encourage you to work to increase internally generated funds. ….please apply your common fund judiciously towards the execution of planned and approved projects. It is not for recurrent expenditure. It should not be misused or abused” He warned.
He said, the IGF will boost the Central Government’s budgetary allocations, thereby supporting local governments in carrying out their own development plans.
