Waste Management Company, Zoomlion and the Ghana Police Service have today begun a four day disinfection exercise at all Police facilities within the Central Region.
In this regard, over 100 police facilities including divisional, district, unit, offices and cells among others will benefit from the exercise which forms part of efforts geared towards containing the spread of the novel coronavirus which has so far claimed thirty two lives in the country.
The Regional Commander COP Paul Manly Awini, who was present at the launch of the exercise in Cape Coast, commended efforts by the Police Service and Zoomlion to control the spread of the Covid19.
He also revealed that the central regional Police command had recorded six of its personnel contracting the disease with two community protection assistants also testing positive. He noted that the infected persons were receiving the best of care with two of the police officers having been treated and discharged.
COP Manly Awuni called for cooperation from officers as the exercise commenced.

The Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan who launched the exercise commiserated with the police personnel who have contracted the disease in their line of duty. He mentioned that as enforcers of the protocols in containing the virus, the Police are very much frontline workers and need to be motivated.
Mr. Duncan also called for a quarterly disinfection of Police cells by the Ministry of Interior to improve hygiene.
“Now with the disinfection of police facilities, it is the covid19 that has brought us this far, but otherwise the rightful thing we ought to do as a country is we must not to wait until we have this problem on our hands because if you go to our cells where people are held on remand, it is not a good site to behold.”
