Government says it is working to ensure that Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) and the preservation of the environment constitute a major pillar in the next phase of Ghana’s development agenda.
According to the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, it is government’s vision that by the next ten years, Ghana’s national development is driven by science and technology.
Dr. Afriyie, speaking during a media briefing in Accra, explained that to deliver on this mandate, they will mainstream Science, Technology and Innovation in all socio-economic activities.

This he said includes commercialization of research outputs, reduce environmental pollution and building of climate resilience and promote sustainable spatial, integrated, balance and orderly development of human settlements.
Highlighting some of the measures being put in place to help achieve a successful mainstreaming of Science, Technology and Innovation into national development, he indicated that Government is currently leveraging ST&I and placing emphasis on research and its application, accepting the idea that one percent of our GDP should go into research and development (R&D).
“We are collaborating with the Ministry of Education to revise the school curriculum to strengthen STEM education.” He added
He noted that with the industry, they will have to set up a machine tooling centre to design and fabricate Agric tools and equipment which will support the 1D1F programme and in the process create jobs.
