Demolition at Budumburam camp in Kasoa needful to clamp criminal activities -Adam Bonaa

Security analyst Adam Bonaa says the demolishing of the Budumburam camp at Kasoa is very needful to clamp down increasing criminal activities in the area.

According to him, most heinous crimes in the country have been traced to areas in Kasoa and its environs due to the existence of the refugee camp in the area hence the need for immediate action.

Residents of the Budumburam camp in the Central Region had up to Thursday September 30, to vacate the area to pave way for a planned demolition.

The directive comes after the Chiefs and People of Gomoa Fetteh and neighboring towns appealed to the government to demolish the enclave to rid the place of suspected criminals.

Reacting to the news of the demolition, Adam Bonaa indicated that the exercise is long overdue since the refugee camp had finished serving its purpose long ago.

“If you check the police’s own database, they will tell you that most heinous crimes that have been committed in this country found it route to Kasoa and the Budubaram camp area. If the place is no longer a refugee camp why do you still have people there who are not supposed to be there? So far as am concerned that place suffers identity crises.” He said

The Buduburam enclave, which used to host mainly Liberians who sought asylum in Ghana during the unrest in that country, is now hosting other foreign nationals from Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and some Ghanaians.

It became the home of Liberian refugees after it was opened by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1990. It was initially home to some 12,000 refugees.
