Some of Josephine Panyin Mensah’s neighbors and co-tenants have questioned the police statement that she may have faked her pregnancy.
They went into the streets of Takoradi, Columbia, to protest, accusing police of spreading lies.
Others went so far as to curse those who disputed the pregnancy.
Josephine’s relatives said that she had lost the baby during the time she was gone after she was found in Axim on September 21.
Residents, in an interview, stated they trust the family’s account and found the police update unexpected.
“If actually, she is not pregnant, I am wondering how she could fake the pregnancy from one month to nine months and even to 10 months when everyone has seen that she is pregnant,” one of them said.
“She even wears knickers to wash in the compound,” he added.
“If the leaders are there to protect us, they should actually bring out the truth and stop this fake news they are bringing out.”
According to a police statement released on Thursday, September 23, 2021, a comprehensive medical check by physicians at the Axim Government Hospital showed that Josephine was not pregnant, as previous reports indicated.
As a consequence, authorities have said that she is now being treated as a suspect in the case.
