Hundreds of young persons have gathered at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Job Fair in search of work from a variety of employers.
Over 1,000 young people were spotted waiting in lengthy lines outside the Accra International Conference Centre, many of whom were attempting to get access to the facility in order to obtain employment with companies.
The main goal of the YEA Job Fair is to offer opportunities for job seekers to go through live interview sessions in order to get hired by participating private sector companies.
Citi News talked with a few of the job hopefuls.
One of them said, “I was here as early as 8:00am, and it’s almost 1:00pm. The experience has been very tough because there is no organization at the place, and we are all just here rushing in and coming out.”
“I got here around 9:30 am and it is almost 1:00pm. When we got here, we were asked to do registration, but things are not working here. It is now left to who is strong that can enter,” another also said.
The different security services have just started the process of recruiting additional people.
Thousands of Ghanaian youngsters flocked to Accra’s El Wak Sports Stadium to take part in paperwork and medical screening procedure for enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces.
However, this has been the pattern for many years, indicating the country’s rising levels of youth unemployment.
Applicants began forming a line that extended for almost four kilometers as early as 4:00 a.m.
This followed the Ghana Armed Forces’ statement in May that a recruiting drill would begin.
