The center for Gender Research, Advocacy, and Documentation (CEGRAD) at the University of Cape Coast on Thursday commenced a two-day staff retreat for its newly appointed staff and research fellows of the center.
The retreat is aimed at training CEGRAD staff and equipping them with the requisite knowledge about the activities of the university to aid them in the delivery of their mandate.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS on the sidelines of the retreat, the Director for CEGRAD UCC, Dr. Georgina Yaa Oduro indicated that the workshop is an opportunity for the center to reflect on how the center is doing and make projections for the future of the center.
She said that “CEGRAD has been in existence for some time and we have been involved in research and advocacy programs but we thought that as Socrates once said, we need to examine ourselves. So, it is not always about doing it for others but then when we sit, we reflect and take stock which sort of inspired this workshop.”
“This workshop is a two-day retreat for the staff of the Centre for us to reflect on how we are doing and how we want to see the Centre in the next 2, 5 or 10 years and our various roles in contributing to that journey” she added.
On his part, the Director for the Directorate of Human Resource at the University of Cape Coast Rev. Isaac Baafi Sarbeng urged the participants to inculcate a positive attitude and culture towards work in order to sustain the center.
He stressed that “as a new Centre they have to build a certain culture which will sustain the center. In terms of their attitude to work, in terms of planning their research agenda and also making sure that they look forward and be on top of all issues relating to gender in the university”.
Some research fellows with the center who participated in the workshop indicated the workshop has been beneficial to them in terms of understanding the activities of the university and how to improve their research as research fellows.
