On Saturday, September 4, 2021, the government is scheduled to receive 1,229,620 Moderna vaccines.
An additional 1.3 million Pfizer vaccines are also expected in Ghana by the end of this month, according to the Ministry of Information.
The country received about 249,000 doses of Astrazeneca vaccines from the UK government a few weeks ago to assist its immunization campaign.
A portion of the population was also recently immunized with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which arrived in the nation last month as part of the African Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Trust program.
Unvaccinated people in COVID-19 hotspots in the Greater Accra Region and the Ashanti Region received a total of 177,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Only 405,971 people had got both doses of the AstraZeneca immunizations prior to the current round of vaccinations with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, while 865,422 had received one dosage.
Ghana is now vaccinating Ghanaians in preparation for their second doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.
On August 18, 2021, Ghana received 249,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the UK government.
According to the Presidential Vaccine Manufacturing Committee, Ghana would need $200 million to completely produce COVID-19 vaccines.
According to the Committee, headed by Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, the initiative would be a private-public collaboration aimed at including everyone.
Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, speaking at a stakeholder workshop for members of the Presidential Press Corps in Accra, said several local pharmaceutical firms are already on board to start the process.
