General Secretary of the People’s National Convention party (PNC), Janet Asana Nabila says she is still at post though the NEC of the party says they have suspended her.
The decision to suspend her was taken after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Chairman of the party, Moses Dani-Baah, said he is confident that the suspension of Janet Nabila will bring stability to the party and help it focus on the 2024 general elections.
According to him, the conduct of the General Secretary since the party’s last congress in 2020 has led to various challenges for the party, adding that the absence of Janet Nabila in the party will not affect it in any way.
However, Mad. Nabila insists the membership of the NEC did not form a quorum to dismiss her. According to her, some corrupt members of the party were making efforts to cover up their misdeeds hence her dismissal.
“We have 16 regions in the country and according to our constitution, more than half of the regions are to attend the NEC for it to become legal. When we had 10 regions it was 6 for a quorum, now that it is 16 it is supposed to be 9…and at the meeting they did not form a quorum…it is illegal, I am not suspended, I am the general secretary of PNC and I still remain the general secretary who will champion the truth no matter what” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, the party’s 2020 presidential candidate, David Apasera says it is untrue the allegations leveled against him and the party’s chairman by the General Secretary.
He indicated that corruption tag on the party’s leadership was simply born out of hatred adding that the party leadership cannot be corrupt as they are the first in the history of the party to raise funds for the party’s account for the party’s expenditure.
