Mr. Kofi Koranteng, the Independent Presidential candidate for 2020, has advocated for the immediate shutdown of Accra’s Police Hospital.
He characterized the institution as inadequate due to its lack of contemporary logistics and medical equipment necessary for the delivery of appropriate health care in the nation.
His remarks came in the wake of the facility’s no-hospital-beds situation and the health professionals’ lax attitude.
Kofi Koranteng made the demand during an appearance on Onua TV’s Makye program on Tuesday, July 20, and repeated his request for the institution to be closed, stating that it is unfit for purpose.
In recounting his experience at the institution, he voiced concern about the hospital’s system failure, the incompetence and bad behavior of the health professionals, and the ill-treatment meted out to patients that attend the facility.
He is enraged by the facility’s unsanitary environment and the hospital administration’s insensitivity and inability to maintain the environment clean in order to expedite patient recovery and promote appropriate treatment.
He questioned whether the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, was aware of the terrible state at the hospital, which is primarily responsible for the police service’s health care.
Kofi Koranteng has therefore sworn vehemently not to bring any of his family, not even his greatest adversary, to the institution for medical treatment.
“I won’t take my worst enemy to the police hospital, no it won’t happen and I sturdily believe that it should be shut down”.
He was curious about how the employees and health professionals were hired and transferred to the government payroll.
Kofi Koraneng has therefore petitioned the government to shut the institution immediately and to terminate the contracts of the health staff based on incompetence and a pitiful attitude toward patients.
