In the forthcoming mid-year budget, President Nana Akufo-Addo says the government would announce initiatives and programs to assist create one million employment.
On Thursday, July 29, 2021, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta Atta is scheduled to deliver the mid-year budget review for the 2021 Financial Year to Parliament
According to the President, employment would be generated over a three-year period under the Ghana COVID-19 Alleviation and Revitalization of Enterprises Support (Ghana CARES) initiative.
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement during his Eid address at the National Mosque on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, as part of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha festivities.
“As has been well reported, the Ministry of Finance gave budgetary approval to the Ministry of Education and the security services a few days ago for the recruitment of about 11,800 personnel to strengthen up their activities. It doesn’t stop there, however. We will announce plans for the development of one million additional employment under the Ghana CARES ‘Obaatampa’ initiative over the next three years via interventions laid forth in the mid-year budget review.”
“We are committed to pursuing our strategy for job creation in order to provide chances for our young to develop their skills for the country’s development,” he said.
FDIs and PPPs will be used to fund Ghana’s CARES initiative, which will cost GHS100 billion.
Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) and Private Public Partnerships would be used to finance the government’s ambitious GHS100 billion Ghana CARES program and other initiatives, according to the government.
Mr. Ofori-Atta stated on Citi TV’s The Point of View, “I believe we’re looking more at PPPs and FDIs straight into that.” We will undoubtedly assess whether the government will be required to intervene in any of these deals, whether via tax waivers or otherwise.”
