Major(Rtd) Osahene Boakye-Djan, the former spokesman of the disbanded Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), has condemned the Free Senior High School program as a “sham” with no beneficial results in the nation.
He believes the Free SHS program is a farce since the government is educating individuals for free into unemployment, notwithstanding the country’s employment shortage prior to the policy’s implementation.
Major (Rtd) said that, apart from the few whose parents can afford to send them to higher education, what would become of the many who are unable to complete their education since there are no jobs in the nation to occupy them?
He claims that it is not only a farce but also extremely hazardous for the nation since in five years, there will be a backlog of people who have gone through the Free SHS system who would be wandering about without any benefit to their parents because they perceive themselves as educated persons.
Major (Rtd) Boakye-Djan made this statement during an interview with Kwaku Tutu on Onua TV’s 100 Degrees show on Monday, July 13.
He said “Free SHS is a sham, you know why? Because you are educating people freely into joblessness. Apart from a few who go to tertiary after the Free SHS, what will happen to the rest of them? It’s a sham, in fact, it’s a danger, after five years time multiplied by the number of people who turn out this year”, he charged.
“There will be a backlog of people who would be roaming around freely, whom the parents have lost to the job market, who wouldn’t even go to the farm with their parents. If the father is a carpenter, that child will look down on such a profession to even learn it because he will assume himself as an educated person”, the army veteran asserted on the 100 Degrees show.
